A Simple Sustainable House in Czech Republic
Mimosa Architects, a Prague based architectural firm, designed a sustainable house with simple design, located in Bohumileč. This house was designed for a family with four members, and adopts passive design to achieve high sustainability. The simple design provide a good adaptation of the construction to the rural setting, as the place where the house is located.
The eco construction was built by using natural materials, such as wooden materials, especially for exterior cladding. The inspiration of this two story home was taken from a rustic house with a saddle roof and the rural area. The simple design and the fit of its design to the rural setting express the house’s motto of rural simplicity.
The passive design was also adopted for this eco construction. This house has east-west orientation to provide an open southern aspect. A large, flat awning provides a shading for the deck and the living at the south side, so harsh sun light in summer can be avoided. Windows were built recessed to provide protection from over sun lighting and glare. The environment condition also help to protect the house from harsh sun light, especially the trees at east, south, and west side, which can provide shading on summer, and allow the sunlight on winter, as they are leafless.
The interior setting of this sustainable home building provides maximum advantages from sun light. The living spaces are located on southern side to maximize natural daylighting. Decks are provided on each side, providing a lot of spaces for outdoor activities.
