Eco Friendly Construction of NET House by Matharoo Associates
A unique, eco friendly construction of a house was created by Matharoo Associates from India. This is the NET House, a weekend escape, built in Ahmedabad, with special unique design to incorporate the surrounding nature, inspired by the architect’s childhood summers that was spent under mosquito nets, in the Ahmedabad’s tropical heat condition.
The sustainable construction utilize a network of mesh shutters integrated at the building exterior. They provide an open feeling to make a very good mixture between indoor condition and the nature surrounded. This condition also provides good air circulation and natural day lighting. The nets are not alone, as they are also supported by some blinds, and glass panels, which slide, roll, and fold, to create a maximum privacy protection from disturbances, also from insects, and controlling the natural ventilation and lighting.
This green architecture product offers open-open plan floors. It has two floors, separated by a concrete slab. A large cabinet structure is used for room divider. This cabinet also contains some main furniture of the house, such as kitchen and dining room furniture, entertainment furniture, and of course the function of keeping clothing and accessories. All of the furniture are set to be folded inside the cabinet, and can be unfolded when needed. With this feature, flexibility of the room can be provided. The house is also completed with two bathrooms, and also a jacuzzi, steam bath, sundeck, and bathing pond located in the adjacent netted outdoor space.
The sustainable house is also completed by rainwater harvest system, located at the roof. The water is stored in an underground tank, streamed a long the spiral staircase. This creates an illusion of climbing waterfall. With the open floor concept, sustainability is also achieved as there are no air conditioner needed and good lighting will be also provided in daytime.
This sustainable building can provide a childhood memory when we liked to play under intersected bamboo poles, creating netting system. It combines with modern aspect, but providing a beautiful mixture with the nature.
