mkGlidehouse® by mkdesigns
Another sustainable prefab house design by mkdesigns (acquired by Blu Homes), this is mkGlidehouse®. This type of prefab house is built by using the most modern technology and also the most environmental friendly materials. It can be built in as little as 10 to 14 months at a cost comparable to or below traditional site-built homes.
The mkGlidehouse meets the Energy Star® program standards for energy efficient homes and meets the performance standards of the American Lung Association Health House program. It has several sustainable features. This high performance home is insulated with an air-barrier, open cell foam insulation, and all wood-to-wood framing joints are caulked, which makes the home airtight, energy efficient, and less likely to produce mold. The mkGlidehouse also uses water-saving plumbing fixtures, on-demand water heaters, and a mechanical ventilation system that is 30% more efficient than typical forced-air systems.
To control the air flow, this house use open sliding doors and opposite clerestory windows. They are set to create cross ventilation system. To maximize this system, they use Energy efficient, dual-pane glass material for the windows and doors. The use of this material also provide natural lighting from the sun, minimize the needs of artificial lighting, especially on sunny day. Each bathroom has skylight and windows. Bedrooms have clerestory windows and sliding glass doors to promote natural lighting and ventilation. Exterior Gliding Wood Sunshades or Lutron� shades can be added to enhance natural light and ventilation control.
The materials are also cotrolled, so only the non-toxic materials are used. Some of the materials are : Non-VOC paint, Andersen® or NanaWall® windows and doors, FSC certified wood and bamboo flooring by EcoTimber®, water-saving fixtures by Kohler® and Hansgrohe®, and Paperstone countertops.
A photovoltaic system can be also provided on this house as the customer’s wish. Any sources of energy are also can be provided, such as wind generator, geothermal, etc.
