Unique Design of Helal New Moon Residence by Ehrlich Architects
This 35,000 sq ft unique residence is built in the Persian Gulf, designed by Ehrlich Architects. The designed is affected by Islamic cultural.
This two stories building has a unique shape roof sheathed in shimmering aluminum. Its canopy forms a crescent moon, on of the symbol on Islamic culture that symbolize a new life. This canopy is supported by stone-clad columns that pierce the roof and project up to the sky, just like traditional wind catcher. The columns are also used as mechanical exhaust vent. The whole structure suggests a giant Bedouin tent, with the football-field-sized roof, cantilevered 30 ft on each side.
Before the main entrance, date palm aisles are existed. There is also a reflecting pool that flows indoor and provides cooling, surrounds the front fae. Traditional lattice sunscreen called moucharabie is used to filter the direct sun light. The site also has gardens, fountains, shady courtyards, and terraces. They make the site just like a paradise.
Due to the Islamic culture that affecting the design, the male guests reception area is separated from the female one. The male guests reception area is located at the west side, while the female is located behind the central grand hall.
Massive stone walls are counterpoint to large expanses of glass and taut elements of steel. This provides a harmonization between the ancient and modern aspects.
